Weaver Writing

Jane Hales will be our instructor for the day, and she will show us how to negotiate the ins and outs of Weaver Writing.

 

UCA brought Gwen Weaver to Salt Lake to teach our guild the alphabet she created.  Gwen was a much loved calligraphy teacher who taught with gentleness, humor, patience and professionalism. Her "Weaver Writing" hand has become a favorite of innumerable calligraphers and her legacy in the world of calligraphy is rich.

 

Sadly, not long after Gwen's visit to Salt Lake, she passed away.  She died at the age of 63.  All UCA members who took her class were gratefull to have  studied with Gwen.

SUPPLIES TO BRING:

  2 rectangles measuring 4.5" x 3 "    
  cut them from posterboard, a cereal box...something heavier than cardstock
  Grid pad
  Pencil
  Pointed nib of choice
  Oblique pen holder
  Writing fluid
  White writing fluid (Bleed-proof white, Pen white or white gouache)
  Small water container
  Paper towels
  Copy of handouts...maybe make a few extra sheets of the lines
  Ruler - (preferably a see-thru one with grid)
  Glue Stick
  Scissors (or exacto blade with cutting mat)
